Commonweal Invents (& Introduces) The Weal

This weekend we’re kicking off our very first gathering of The Weal, a Commonweal-sponsored group for young folks (20s & 30s) in NYC.

The idea for this group arose some months ago. We were approached by a couple of local readers who wondered whether this type of group already existed. A group, essentially, that could provide a space for those interested in dynamic, intelligent conversations and could offer opportunities to attend lectures, workshops, exhibits, etc. with peers in the area.

This type of group didn't exist, we admitted. But it should. So we got to work with proposals and pitches and many a meeting with our publisher. In the course of the last few months, we began to see how perfectly suited this whole endeavor is to the mission and history of Commonweal, a magazine that has consistently provided a forum and voice for the American laity. We see The Weal as the natural extension of this mission for the next generation of readers, thinkers, and believers.

If you're in your 20s or 30s and live in the area, we'd love to meet you! The details for our first event are below, but you can also click here for more information about the group. Email us at nycweal@commonwealmagazine.org to RSVP or get on our mailing list and stay updated on all our events.
