Hear my prayer and my supplication; listen to my tears. Do not be silent toward me (Ps 38, 13). Let me not be forever deaf. Do not be silent toward me. Let me hear you. For God speaks in hidden ways; he speaks to many in their hearts. And there, in the hearts great silence, comes a great sound when with a loud voice God says, "I am your salvation." Say to my soul, another Psalm says, I am your salvation (Ps 34:3). When the Psalmist says, Do not be silent toward me, he is praying that God will not stop saying, "I am your salvation." (Augustine, Enar. in Ps 38, 20)
