I grew up in Rhode Island--one of the most Catholic states in the nation. So this story was surprising to me. What lessons should we take from it? One lesson, it seems to me, is from the end of the article. Priests who are welcoming people with kids who want to regularize their marriage with a church wedding seem to be pretty effective in bringing people back to the church.A little kindness goes a long way. Good job, Fr. Paquette!
