lightning bolts of sorrow

knowing he’s neither here

nor there my new life

making my way through drifts

wondering if he’s only

in my heart does he die again

when I die are we heartless

holding hostage

those we most want to see

in the flesh leaving fresh

prints on a water glass

precious as the glyphs

of gulls and sandpipers
