Second Century

Support the Second Century of Commonweal

Drawing upon the Catholic intellectual tradition, Commonweal is a space where people of all faiths and none can find meaning, hope, and human connection. We present ideas in a spirit of justice, charity, and critical intelligence, and we offer a forum where writers from many backgrounds can engage the issues of the day with depth and seriousness.

From theologians and philosophers to political analysts, economists, cultural critics, poets, artists, teachers, and activists, Commonweal brings diverse voices into conversation at the intersection of religion, politics, and culture. We believe that meaningful dialogue at this intersection can promote the public good – the commonweal.

To sustain and expand this work as a lay-led, independent Catholic voice, Commonweal has launched its Second Century Campaign. Our goal is to raise $10 million by the end of 2026 to strengthen our foundation and extend our reach.

Through this campaign, we seek to:
• Increase our reach through public thought leadership
• Build a network of partners committed to the common good
• Connect with new and more diverse audiences through our content and programming, especially on college and university campuses
• Foster the next generation of Commonweal writers and editors

With your support, we believe we can make this vision a reality.

This is an all-in campaign, and every gift counts. Thanks to the generosity of our community, Commonweal has already secured more than $7 million toward our goal. To help carry us across the finish line, we invite our most committed supporters to join the Second Century Associates.

Second Century Associates

Second Century Associates are leadership donors who give $1,000 or more in a calendar year. Their generosity plays a critical role in sustaining Commonweal’s future, and we are pleased to offer additional opportunities for engagement as a sign of our gratitude.
