What stories from Commonweal are on the site? Beginning in March 2006, the site includes every story from the print magazine, although it restricts access to many of those stories to paid users of the site. Subscribers to either the print or online editions of Commonweal receive full access to this archive along with their subscriptions. A complete archive of everything Commonweal has published since 1924 is also available via our Advanced Search page. Searching this complete archive is free, but reading stories requires a separate registration and payment.

Is registering for the site free of charge? Yes, if all you want to do is to be able to comment on the blog, dotCommonweal. However, if you want to read stories with the "P" symbol next to them, you will need to be a paid subscriber to either the print or online editions of Commonweal.

I am a print subscriber to Commonweal. How do I get free access to the entire Web site? If you’re already registered with the Web site, simply go to the Account link at the top of the home page. There you will find a section in which you will be asked to provide the account number for your print subscription to the magazine — a seven-digit number that can be found on the mailing label of any issue. Once you have provided your print subscription account number, you will have full online access to Commonweal for as long as you have a print subscription. If you are a print subscriber to Commonweal and have never registered with the Web site, simply click on the "Register" link near the top of the home page. During the course of the brief registration process you will be asked to provide the account number for your print subscription to the magazine — a seven-digit number that can be found on the mailing label of any issue.

How do I purchase an online-only subscription to Commonweal? If you are already registered with the Web site, simply log into the site and go to the My Account link near the top of the home page. You will find a section on the My Account page that will link you to the order form for an online-only subscription. Online subscriptions cost $34 per year. If you have never registered with the Web site before, just click on the "Register" link near the top of the home page and follow the path to purchase an online-only subscription.

What if I forget my UserID and Password? Your UserID should be the e-mail address you gave us when you registered on the site. If you have forgotten your password, we have an automated system that can e-mail it to you. You will see the link presented to you when you try to log into the site.

May I post comments to Commonweal’s blog? Commenting is restricted to registered users of the site. If you are registered and experience difficulty posting a comment, please contact us at [email protected].

Can I change my UserID/e-mail address? Yes. Just visit the Account link at the top of the home page.

What happens to my e-mail address? Will it be shared with anyone? Commonweal does not share e-mail addresses with any third party. See our Privacy Policy.
