His designated drivers fell asleep

Disappointing news from the Lower Hudson Valley (as if we didn't have enough image problems to deal with!):

[Officer William] Olli placed Christ under arrest after he failed field-sobriety tests, police said.

He was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. The charge was elevated to a felony once police returned to the station and determined that Christ had a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years, police said.

...

Christ was released to a family member after posting $200 bail and is due Feb. 26 in Yorktown Town Court, police said.

And he's from (Mount) Carmel, mentioned several times in the Old Testament, and the place where Essenes who may have originated in Nazareth sought refuge.Coincidence? I think not.

Driving a red Caddy no less?Hmm...Seriously, the resposne by "Voice of Reason" in coments was idiotic.DUI or DWI cases are very serious and are often treated differently than other classes of crimes. As this incident shows, there is a good deal of recidivism in this area. While offenders can be managed in the community , a good deal of structure and expertise is needed in dealing with them.

Oh, Bob, don't read comments on newspaper stories! It will only lead to despair. Plus now you made me go and do it too. ...I gather this was originally posted under the headline "Christ Was Arrested" or something like that, and a bunch of people complained it was a "slur" against Christians (sigh). So I think "Voice of Reason" was responding to their suggestion that it was somehow wrong to report this particular DWI because of the guy's name... and not commenting on law enforcement approaches to drunk driving. (That's way too complicated a topic for your average local-newspaper-website commenter.)

Remember that in New York .05 BAC is a Dwai, "driving while ability impaired." Point .08 is dwi.
