A housekeeping question for those of you who subscribe to Commonweal via snail mail: when did you receive the April 6 issue (the one with the Easter eggs on the cover), and in what part of the country do you live? Thanks for your help.

  1. Grant,
Unless you have a particular interest in the date of arrival of this number, may I suggest that you ask for the date of arrival of a later issue. This house has someting of the character of a library, but we do not check in the periodicals.

  2. I know the feeling, Joseph, but those of us in the NYC metro area received that issue recently, well beyond the issue date. It’s the last one you would have gotten in the mail.

  3. My memory is not the best, but that issue must have come about 2 weeks ago. The new issue came (the “road sign”) came a few days ago. I live in Washington DC.

  4. Mine arrived today.

  5. Ooops. Forgot. I live in Baltimore, MD.

  6. Here in the Southwest where the joke is everything takes 6 weeks longer – pony express, you know – Commomweal then and almost always arrives in a timely manner.

  7. I don’t believe I have received it yet, here in College Park, MD.

  8. Hello Grant (and all),

I received mine about two days after the publication date, which is consistent with what I’ve experienced in my year here in Chapel Hill North Carolina.

Next year I will be in Boston. I wonder how the snail mail will treat my issues of Commonweal there? Some of the others live in much larger communitioes than Chapel Hill, and it seems the snail mail delivers them their issues more slowly than I get mine here.

  9. It arrived here on Long Island close to the publication date. In the past, I complained about delays, but this was on time. Last night at Fordham’s “Four Literary Stars” I was looking for Grant. The presentation was delightful, thoughtful, rich: Dan Barry introducing and interviewing Alice McDermott; Peter Quinn introducing and interviewing William Kennedy.

  10. As it happens, the April 20 issue arrived today, April 26. I hope this is some help.

  11. I should have added that we live in Westchester county, NY.

  12. From far western NC:

My copy arrived soon after the publication date.

  13. Easter egg edition came a week late.

I live in Podunk, Michigan, on a rural delivery route. My Commonweal is always three to five days late anyway, but I can’t always tell because Raber gets to the mailbox first and hoardes issues in his truck. With his transfat-NOT-free donuts.

Not that I’m bitter or anything …

  14. nota Bene: The May 4 issue arrived today, May 2 We’ve begun the Te Deum.

  15. Commonweal of May 4, 2007, arrived today, May 5. Glad to see the Spring Books issue! Thanks.
