  1. Way to go, Eduardo!
Chalk up one for “progressive moderation.”

  2. What is the patois in which one says “She gone”? It is unfamiliar to me.

That said, the lady seem to have graciously made the right decision in the public interest. This does not make the abominable No-man any less abominable.

  3. You’ll have to forgive me, Joseph. Pitchers and catchers report on Thursday, and I couldln’t help adopting the announcerspeak of White Sox TV commentator Ken “Hawk” Harrelson. A momentary lapse.

  4. And I thought it was an allusion to Hall and Oates.

  5. Hmm, and I thought it was because Grant might be a fan of O.A.R, the band started in the late 1990′s by a group of Ohio State students. Apparently, English isn’t a required course at OSU. ;)

    “She Gone (Only In Dreams)”

He walks these streets some nights until way past twelve.
His mind can’t decide if he’s in heaven…he just can’t tell.
He sees her standing there, smiling by the lamp post shine.
His heart can’t remember ever feeling, oh, so fine.
    She gone.
She not coming back, no way.
    She gone.
She not coming back to stay.
    She gone.

And as she turns away his eyes lost in her back.
His feet continue down some ancient railroad track.
And right then, right there he sees that he’s done wrong.
And as he opens his eyes, realizes that she gone.

Well, she gone, she not coming back, no way.
She gone, she not coming back to stay.
Well, she gone, she never coming back again.
She gone, what’s he gonna do ’til then?
    She gone.
    She gone.
    She gone.
    She gone so far away.
    She gone.

  6. Okay–so Hall and Oates were more correct in their grammar. But I can’t resist posting the lyrics (to be heard in nursing homes across the country in thirty years or so).

    Everybody’s high on consolation
Everybody’s trying to tell me what’s right for me
My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon
but it’s plain to see that they can’t comfort me

    Sorry Charlie for the imposition
I think I’ve got it, got the strength to carry on
I need a drink and a quick decision
Now it’s up to me, ooh what will be

    Chorus:
    She’s Gone Oh I, Oh I’d
better learn how to face it
    She’s Gone Oh I, Oh I’d
pay the devil to replace her
She’s Gone – what went wrong

Up in the morning look in the mirror
I’m worn as her tooth brush hanging in the stand
my face ain’t looking any younger
now I can see love’s taken her toll on me

    She’s Gone

Think I’ll spend eternity in the city
let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away
and pretty bodies help dissolve the memories
but they can never be what she was to me

    She’s Gone

  7. I agree with Cathy on the song. Question: is trhe Edwards campaign (such as it is) in “total disarray” and how does WD know this?

  8. Bob–

WD knows because last evening on Bill O’Reilly’s TV show, after O’Reilly let Michelle Malkin run on uninterrupted for about 90 seconds (a record for Bill?) about the blogging imbroglio, O’Reilly stated emphatically that “it’s over” for the Edwards campaign, a conclusion even more ominous than WD’s, if truth be told.

Perhaps it was Malkin to O’Reilly to Donohoe, the modern day double play equivalent to Tinkers to Evers to Chance. ;)

  9. Apologies to die-hard Cub fans. That should be Tinker to Evers to Chance.

As Grant said, pitchers and catchers report to spring training later this week. Just a quick bit of baseball poetry as a reminder that the end of the cold and snow won’t be too far behind:

    “Baseball’s Sad Lexicon”

These are the saddest of possible words:
    “Tinker to Evers to Chance.”
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
    Tinker and Evers and Chance.
    Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double–
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
    “Tinker to Evers to Chance.”

(NY Giants fan and NYC journalist Franklin Pierce Adams in 1910)

Where’s the Catholic connection? Darned if I know, except that being in a MLB stadium is being in a secular cathedral for me.

  10. Amanda Marcotte needed to resign because of poor taste and poor politics. The perception of what she wrote was far worse than what she meant. She should know better.

She was good for Donohue and O’Reilly because it makes good copy for them. Substantial items are foreign to them so this was right up their alley.

  11. WD will give up no story until he has made a fool of himself! No surprise there. Most of his followers would not support Edwards anyway.

  12. As to (Chicago) sports, Rush says Rex Grossman is being criticized only because he’s (a) white (QB).
Are Rush’s fans evver in total disarray? or Pat Robertson? or ann Coulter?
Asx long as anything goes in the media, we’ll have lots of double standard. O Lord, for a real ethic of civility…

  13. Are you kidding? He really said that? How absurd. Grossman is being slammed because he looked terrible at the Superbowl. Period.

  14. Rush will also say, on tomorrow’s show, that no one will utter a word of criticism about Barack Obama’s presidential campaign if Obama becomes the Bears’ quarterback. ;)

  15. I got the item on Rush from the column of Jim Gordon, the anti fan (which unfortunately I can’t locate on line.)
It’s a great weekly read about sport hypocrisy.
