Site registration woes (updated).

It’s come to our attention that many users are having a hard time moving their accounts over to the new system, and it isn’t hard to see why. Here’s the deal:

If you are a print subscriber and want to receive full access to our archive online, you need to login and click the My Account link near the top of the home page.

Update: You can do three things on this page: change your subscription level (only this is required to upgrade your account), change your e-mail address, or change your password.

So if you’re happy with the e-mail address you originally provided, ignore the second box. If you’re fine with the password you first created, skip the third box. But if you want to change your subscription level, follow the instructions in the first box. (If you’d like to change them at a later date, you can always return to the My Account page to make updates.)

If you’re a print subscriber and you want full online access to our archive, select the first option in the Change Your Subscription Level box and enter the necessary information (your account number and zip code), then click Continue. If you want to purchase an online-only subscription for $25 a year, select the second option and click continue.

Update: We’ve now changed the process so that if you decide to change your e-mail address, once you click Submit, you’ll be taken to a page confirming the change. Same goes for your password. And if you change your subscription level, you’ll be taken to a page confirming this, too. No more looping back to the My Account Setup page.

  1. One nice feature which seems to be missing now – earlier after going to the comments page, hitting the back button used to take you to the item from which you moved. But now it oes back to the top of the main blog page, requiring you to scroll back down to the item you were reading
