Stephen Colbert on the Culture Wars. “The best way to fight evil Islamic fanaticism is with good Christian fanaticism.”



It is reassuring to know that M. Colbert is discerning. But is it ever wise to fan the flames of fanaticism? I think rather one should rarely affirm, never deny, always extinguish.
I think he’s using irony as his fanaticism extinguisher.

Do you ever worry that your fascination with Mr. Colbert is an “inordinate attachment?”

“Inordinate attachment. . . ” I guess that depends upon your point of view. . . .
It’s Thursday afternoon and the Domers have already started descending on campus for Saturday’s football game!

I expect you are right, but the thing about fanatics is that they either don’t get irony or, even worse, are further inflamed by it.
