Playing politics

Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) has had it with the politicization of 9/11 and the “war on terror.”
We’re at war
against an enemy that I happen to believe is the most dangerous enemy
ever to confront this country. We play petty politics constantly here
on the floor of the Senate, even after a solemn day of remembrance for
the valiant people who died on September 11. This is chilling. We just
can’t get past the politics around here, just can’t get past the
partisan advantage around here…
It certainly is depressing when politicians exploit tragic events for their own partisan advantage. Isn’t it?

What’s the latest prediction on the PA Senate race, anyway? I haven’t been paying attention.
Unfortunately, many of those who cannot be accused of hypocrisy are likely to have weak or no standards and are far from being superior moral exemplars.
The PA race looks to be getting closer: http://www.electoral-vote.com:2006/evp2006/States/pennsylvania.html
NPR had a segment yesterday on the Santorum/Casey race. The poll referenced in the segment (can’t recall which poll it was) had Santorum at 39% and Casey at 44%. According to NPR, Santorum’s barrage of ads aimed at Casey’s alleged lack of experience in several public service jobs is having an effect. Santorum has been holding steady just below 40% for some time, but is closing the gap by causing decreases in Casey’s polling numbers. The % of undecideds therefore continues to grow, and they will likely tip the election one way or the other. The segment also mentioned, if I remember correctly, that both candidates will be spending a combined sum of $10 million between now and election day.
While I only saw a snatch of his speech on CNN, I kept thinking is Mr. Santorum including himself in the partisanship.
It’s been a grungy few days of partisanship msking as patriotism. I can see why the country(according to polls) is unhappy woth the administration and Congress. Of course, that might lead us back to really talking about the comon good and how to work together for it.
