Odierno’s advisers?

Pat Lang wants to know why Bill Kristol was invited to a private meeting at Ft. Hood with Gen. Odierno, who is about to take over for Gen. Petraeus in Iraq:
Why was Kristol invited by the Defense department to Ft. Hood, Texas to talk to Odierno? Who were the other member of the “small group” who were invited? Why does Odierno want to talk to such a group privately? Is Odierno involved in information operations in the United States?
I am surprised that Secretary Gates would countenance such shenanigans.

Since some of my posts here have been criticized for belonging more on a foreign policy blog than a Catholic one, I must ask: what on earth does this have to do with Catholicism, Catholic teaching, etc., etc. It seems this thread belongs more on the Daily Kos or similar blog.

The answer– “Commonweal– A Review of Religion, Politics, and Culture.” While that can be so broad that the distinctiveness of this magazine and blog contribution is lost, the issues of balance in media access, the moral issues discussed for years about this war, and the continued attempts to manipulate the media seem to justify this blog point’s attention.

Both CCC and Faithful Citizenship point out that Catholics are supposed to be active citizens.
I appreciated the Catholic Education I had that challenged us to view the world’s issues in terms of our values and infusinng these into our political views, instead of the other way around.
So, …why was Mr. Kristo invited? Doies anyone have anything to tell us?
Or will this just be one of many dep secrets covered by ‘executive privlege” or “national security” or whatever?
What am I missing – doesn’t the First Amendment protection of the press apply to Mr. Kristol and his sources? Or alternatively, why would the protections afforded to whistle-blowers and leakers of classified or top secret information to speak to the press not be applicable to General Odierno?
