I, too, find this interview quite wonderful. I’ve admired Peter S.’s work for some time and I think many will profit from the additional exposure this interview gives him. I wonder (and hope) that viewers who did not know who Pete S. was before will now be interested in studying some of his fine articles and books.
Okay, now for an impertinent question. Has Peter S. been invited to appear on news programs such as those that air on CNN? I don’t watch either CNN or The Daily Show regularly, but I am not aware of Peter S. or any of the other major contributors to Commonweal’s periodical and web log ever having been interviewed on CNN. I am aware that Bill Donohue appears with some frequency on CNN. I would hope that an organization like CNN that presents itself as a serious news organization would have at least as much good judgment in selecting people to interview on the air as the comedy network that airs The Daily Show.
Anyhow, hats off to The Daily Show for bringing Peter S. on the air and a double-hats off to Peter S. for being simultaneously so informative and such a good sport.
Peter is one of finest religion journalists and scholars of religion in America today (in my humble opinion). He is also a man of very deep and broad faith. As my students would say, “props” to you, Peter
Fabulous, Peter.
