Barack brew.
In all the hoopla surrounding Rev. Wright, a very important news item has gone ignored.
Brooklyn’s Sixpoint beer just released “Hop Obama” ale in New York and Massachusetts. From the press release:
In keeping with the Illinois senator’s unifying theme, the “Hop Obama” is an indefinable ale that doesn’t adhere to traditional style guidelines. The 5.2% ABV creation contains five different kinds of European crystal malt and three different kinds of Pacific Northwest Hops. Combined with a Scottish yeast strain for fermentation, the result is a highly drinkable beer with a big malt background and an “Obama” of hops that imparts floral and citrus notes with just a hint of spiciness.
True, the fact that Sixpoint beers are made with New York City tap water is somewhat disconcerting–and oddly calming… But this beer sounds incredible. Maybe not the perfection of Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale, but just as lovingly crafted. Geraldine Ferraro has already chimed in on Hop Obama’s success, claiming that the brew is “lucky to be a dark ale.”

Perhaps Ferraro already named Magic Hat’s “Heart of Darkness” the honorary Obama beer.
Oh, and at LEAST one of the candidates deserves to do a commercial for Stone’s “Arrogant Bastard Ale.” Just saying.
While you obamaniacs are sipping the brew, Hillary Clinton was busy with the nation’s business.
Here she is today on Iraq (fifth anniv. et al):

Grant,
Of course it’s oddly calming. It’s all those anti-anxiety and anti-convulsant prescription drugs in the New York City water supply.
(That was the joke, David!)
It’s not funny, Grant. Think of all the money I could’ve saved…
Margaret,
So the “nation’s business” includes making a tired–and not terribly effective–misrepresentation of McCain’s “100 years” comment? I’d expect better from Hillary–but then, if she could do better, she’d probably be doing better against Obama.
Between Obama Ale and hillary Snake Oil, it’s no wonder polenty of Democrats prefer to make room for a brew.
Meanwhile, true to his maverick nature, McCain “unself-consciously nurses a vodka Gibson on the rocks in an age when Diet Coke is the safer choice,” explains Vanity Fair.
Grant,
Doh!
(I don’t watch The Simpsons, but I think I am using that correctly.)
Robert,
Talk about deliberate misrepresentation! How many times has McCain said the Democrats want to raise the “white flag of surrender” in Iraq? This would of course mean the troops there would lay down their weapons and turn themselves over to al-Qaeda and the Iraqi insurgents as prisoners. The old “cut and run” accusations were almost truthful by comparison.
David:
The “white flag of surrender” is meant in the sense of giving up the fight, not turning themselves over to al0Qaeda. And of course, you know this.
David:
Bob S is right–white flags were often used to request safe conduct out of a contested position, fortification, etc., not just hand yourself over to the enemy … but given that some (especially in the UK and possibly Obama, who never met an enemy he didn”t wnat to talk to) are suggesting we should open up “negotiations” with al Quaeda, the taliban, etc., perhaps they do want to hand over the troops (as atonement for Gitmo, Abu Graib, perhaps) .. after all, what could anyone possibly talk to al Quaeda about–what color burkhas western women shoudl adopt? How long western men must grow their beards?
But … this was a fun little posting about beer–one of God’s greatest gifts–so let’s not clutter it with unpleasantries (which was why I chided Margaret for being too serious here about “the nation’s business”)
Bob,
In military terms, to surrender is to lay down your weapons and give yourself over into the power of the other side. Name me one instance where the term “surrender” is used of a military conflict to mean something else. To simply stop fighting could be a ceasefire, a truce, or a retreat. But it would not be a surrender. It is the ultimate in defeat, which is why John McCain mendaciously uses it.
Robert,
White flags may be used in the ways you suggest, but Bob is not right. “White flag of surrender” (McCain’s exact words, repeated over and over again) does not indicate a request for safe passage or a call for a truce or ceasefire. A “white flag of surrender” (as opposed to just “white flag”) means nothing other than surrender. And in military terms, to surrender is not merely to cease fighting, but indicates turning oneself over to the enemy. This is just a fact.
But then again, Robert, many a truth is said in jest. Grant you this. You have improved with McCain. Yet you were mired in W. Or is it just party affiliation that counts?
For the record. New York City has the best water around. Probably even better than the bottled water which is the biggest ripoff. http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress.nsf/3881d73f4d4aaa0b85257359003f5348/54aeb32b2719f5f585257328004c70da!OpenDocument
So if those deceitful companies admit again that they use tap water, you know that it is not that bad. It just makes the people fools who use it.
Bill M’s right: NYC tap-water is great for beer. And, Grant is right: The folks at Bell’s (right “here” in Michiana) clearly “went down to the crossroads” and traded away something for some amazing brewing ability.
Unpleasantries?!? Oh you white guys! You are white guys, right? You are so not with it. Beer on!
This thread seems to be brewing up more froth than substance. But I suppose its good for what ales you. Barley anyone here is making any sense. The post has become a drinkingstein monster. A big brew-ha-ha…
A lot of beer is needed folks. You heard it here first. Obama is finished. I said it before that he is not vetted enough to run in a national election because there are too many unknowns about him. Mainly the point was/is that once the Republicans started attacking how would he handle it. It might be fortuitous for the democrats that a crisis happened now because there would certainly be more and there is reason to doubt if he could handle it.
Now in the most serious crisis in his campaign, he is going to attempt a “culture” explanation saying why he listened to his pastor’s sermon and did not object. There is no way he will get out of this. Moreover, the dimension that will be looked at is how can a president act this way.
My main objection has been to him as the anti-Hillary, the anti-female. But the inexperience is certainly a factor and it is coming out big now.
How we are talking about beer when this guy is on the precipice is a good question.
Obama knows this is extremely grave. How come his supporters do not.
One of the problems of those who support Obama on this blog will be; how can one admit one is wrong?
I don’t think he will recover from this one.

You just got that off the Laetare Medal!
What was that about not recovering, Bill?
