Giuliani’s accused-priest problem.

Andrew Sullivan links to Deal Hudson’s post on Rudy Giuliani’s paid consultant (and childhood friend) Msgr. Alan Placa, who was accused of sexual abuse in a 2003 grand-jury report and has been suspended from ministry for the past five years. Andrew asks the right question: Where’s the press on this story? Given the vigor with which many reporters have pursued the Catholic Church’s sexual-abuse scandal, why have so few stories been written about Placa and Giuliani?

Deal Hudson is outraged by a sex scandal? That’s hilarious!
” Placa and Riordan are business partners in several real estate ventures in and around New York City. ” They would not be the poor struggling priests an article in the present Issue of Commnweal refers to, would it? Wonder why the emerging financial scandal might dwarf even the pedophilia imbroglio.
Rudy keeps trudging along, though. Like W he seems to be counting on his competition being a lot worse, whether in fact or as a weak campaigner.
Between this, which I am glad was exposed, even if a bit ironically by Deal Hudson, and Kerik, Rudy has severely hurt himself. I think this clears even more space for Huckabee, all without Norris’ chin throwing one punch!
This was covered and perhaps uncovered by the Village Voice this summer: http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0726,barrett,77041,6.html
They also do a good job of showing just how toxic Giuliani the person is. But, you are right, it hasn’t been picked up by the mainstream.
MM et al are right about Deal Hudson and his fordham escap[ade)s_.
The Placa story is more serious and Guiliani is the guy who puts personal loyalty/friendship well above character.
That’s indeed toxic.
Wow, the Voice article is devastating!
