51st: Does Obama Love Us?

“He is really aloof. He is not as warm, he is not a hugging person. I remember I saw Bill Clinton — he was speaking about [assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak] Rabin, and he had tears in his eyes. And I saw [former President George W. Bush] and [former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert, you know, hugging each other. And Obama is not a hugging person.” Here.

Alas, Obama is not a Hugger. Must need therapy.

  1. Netanyahu’s a Hugger?

  2. Perhaps he’s just a selective hugger. http://photobucket.com/images/Obama+Hug/

  3. Wm Collier: Good question! Take a look at Jim’s link. Obama can hug. Catch the picture of the Obama / Bush HUG!

  4. Hugging as a substitute for diplomacy? Were Bismarck, Metternich, Talleyrand, George Kennan or Jim Baker huggers? (One or two of these gents may well have been huggers in private, but not in public, I think).
Perhaps the others knew that hugging in the diplomatic world can easily become mugging.

  5. I didn’t think being a “huggy bear” was a qual for POTUS

  6. Maybe Obama agrees with Commonweal about the country that doesn’t deserve to be called by its name, much less hugged.

  7. I thought hugging was a left wing activity.

  8. No, no, it’s not hugging; it’s kissing on both cheeks.

  9. “I thought hugging was a left wing activity.”

Nope, it’s a gay male activity. Can’t have THAT in our POTUS, can we?

  10. As a matter of fact, on the very day before this piece was written, Obama hugged basketball legend Bill Russell as he presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
